Inner Flame
Based loosely on "The Faithful Soldier," it's the heartbreaking story of a young Cantonist, Srulik, who weathers the many storms he faces in the Russian army. He is transferred to a farm where he befriends the farmer’s son, Boris, telling him about his home life and teaching him a song his mother sang to him as a child. On a visit to the village, he meets the local rabbi who tells him that Boris was adopted and is in truth a Jewish child. The rabbi cautions him not to tell him. Srulik is soon after reassigned to another army base and loses contact with the family. Years later, while a guest in another house, he hears his host singing his mother’s song. Boris, now Baruch, and Srulik are reunited and relight their friendship.
